Are you physically challenging yourself?

Trust you are gearing up for a great weekend.  Well, mine is off to a good start.

I took part in my first group cycling training earlier today!

I decided to challenge myself because I read somewhere that taking part in group endurance training helps to stretch you beyond what you think you can do.  And if you can get through the class, your mind mentally confirms to you that you can take up even bigger challenges..and that is how you grow!

Well I have been ‘wanting’ to do this for so long (how many things are still on your list to do??). I finally did it today! This was after I committed and told my Accountability Partner – Catherine that I was going to take part in a group endurance class!  I could not see myself giving her an excuse when you connect on Monday!

We had our pre-training class for four newbies (including me) for 20 minutes.  An online dashboard shows you how you are performing and compared to the group.  I forgot that this was not a sprint, and was initially coming 1st in the race. By the 17th minute, I was so exhausted, I was tempted to quit.  By this time I was the last (lol) in the race, because I had reduced my resistance to 0.  By the time I realized we were at the end  of the race, I came last in the pre-training. ☹

The instructor however challenged us to join the main class which was starting in 10 minutes. Three of us decided to continue, while the fourth newbie gave up.  I was so exhausted by this time.

When we joined the main class, I set my intention to finish the class despite how fatigued I was.  My goal was not to be the first, because I realized that since this was my first time and had not built up enough stamina, I would fatigue and could give up before the end of the class.  This strategy paid off and I completed the race and came 3rd (not last this time).

This was a fun morning and I felt I could take up the next physical and mental challenge.  There were many lessons I learnt from this experience.

Have a fun weekend!

What are you doing to physically challenge yourself?
