Why everyone needs a coach

Everyone needs a coach” – Bill Gates

That’s what the world’s richest man, Bill Gates (according to Forbes list) says – Everyone needs a coach!  The coaching practice has been around for several decades but have become increasingly popular.  Most sports champions have always used coaches, but there has been a recent increase in the engagement of professional coaches to achieve business and personal success.

Most people interchange coaching with training. The coaching practice is very different from the teaching process, in that while teaching is usually conducted by an expert in a particular subject, and knowledge usually flows from the outside (the teacher) in (the student), coaching is usually from the inside-out.

Coaching embraces all levels of human intelligence, underpinned by the presupposition that the answer is always within the individual. The person concerned may not be aware of it yet, they may not become aware of it in the coaching session itself, however the answer will be forthcoming.

One of the most valuable aspects of coaching is taking people out of the daily doing, stopping them functioning on autopilot that creates their existing results- and getting them to stop and think to consciously participate in their personal and professional lives.

According to a research conducted by Careers Partners International, 40% of the over 400 U.S and Canadian business leaders interviewed chose coaching as their preferred method for leadership development.  Research is also accumulating that shows a return-on-investment (ROI) of five to eight times the cost of coaching, or 500% – 800%.

I first realized that I needed to engage a coach about five years ago, when I realized there was more I wanted and could do, despite being successful in the multinational company I worked with.  It was while working with my coach and through the coaching process, that I discovered what really I wanted to do and become.  The power in coaching does not really come from the coach, but from the process itself.

I have since then become a certified executive and business coach and I now help to inspire and empower growth minded individuals and organizations achieve their highest potential, whilst leaving significant lives.
The coaching process has 3 underlying objectives:

  1. Greater awareness and hence growth
  2. Increased responsibility
  3. Greater accountability

All 3 bring greater empowerment and resourcefulness to the individual, creating lasting change by adopting a learning approach that operates from the inside out as opposed to the outside in.

The personal benefits of coaching are as wide ranging as the individuals involved.
Numerous clients report that coaching positively impacted their careers as well as their lives by helping them to:

  • Establish and take action towards achieving goals
  • Become more self-reliant
  • Gain more job and life satisfaction
  • Contribute more effectively to the team and the organization
  • Take greater responsibility and accountability for actions and commitments
  • Work more easily and productively with others (boss, direct reports, peers)
  • Communicate more effectively

Our potential cannot be found somewhere outside of us; it can only be discovered within us.  It is to this end that I will like to offer you the opportunity to experience the power of coaching, through a 45 minute complementary session.
